Feast Day of The Epiphany of the Lord
The Gospel Reading today is Matthew 2:1-12. In today’s gospel we hear the story of the wise men traveling to find Jesus. They are so pure. They have no personal agenda other than paying homage to the newborn king. In the midst of their journey, they encounter Herod. Because their own hearts are so pure, the wise men do not recognize the malice in the questioning of Herod. But they are later warned in a dream to go home by another way and not report their findings to Herod. We must reflect on the childlike faith of the wise men. We are called to the same: childlike faith. In life, we will encounter people whose motives are not pure, possibly even evil. This should not upset us, nor cause us to be drawn off course. We must keep our eyes on Jesus. We must keep our ears open to His direction. And we must trust our relationship with Jesus and follow what He tells us. Childlike faith. Trust.
