Twenty Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time
Matthew 21:33-43Today’s gospel is the story of the wicked tennants. God sends His servants to collect what belongs to Him and they destroy all those whom He sends. And then He sends His Son and they kill Him also. Jesus makes two key points following this parable. One is that “The stone that the builders rejected, has become the cornerstone.” Jesus is that cornerstone. He was rejected and put to death, and yet he is the foundation of our faith.
And the second point is “the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people that produces the fruits of the kingdom.” If we fail to follow Him, if we fail to produce fruit that will last, what God has given us will be taken away. That could be our faith, our hope, our peace, our joy. In any case, let us work to produce fruit that will last. Keep Jesus as your cornerstone and you will grow in the way God wishes for you.
