Second Sunday of Advent
Mark 1:1-8Today’s gospel is the beginning of the gospel of St. Mark. His introduction first speaks of the prophecy of Isaiah, “See, I am sending my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way; the voice of one crying out in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight,’”
Then John the Baptist is introduced. He is portrayed as one who lived an austere life encouraging others to repent and be baptised. And as soon as others come to him, he points to The One who is to come after him, Jesus.
John gives us a blueprint for evangelization. We are to live simply, attracting others to reform their lives, coming to know Jesus through us.
In this season of Advent, let us pray: “Come Lord Jesus!”
