Third Sunday of Advent
John 1:6-8, 19-28In today’s gospel, John the Baptist is introduced and questioned. “So they said to him, ‘Who are you, so we can give an answer to those who sent us?’”
And John said to them, “’I am the voice of one crying out in the desert,‘make straight the way of the Lord,’”
And so the Pharisees questioned him further, “They asked him, ‘Why then do you baptize if you are not the Christ or Elijah or the Prophet?’
John answered them, ‘I baptize with water; but there is one among you whom you do not recognize, the one who is coming after me, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to untie.’“
John is filled with the Holy Spirit in answering the people who question him. We are so blessed to have his example as a way in which to answer when we are questioned. Do not waver. Do not cower. Speak the truth with conviction and calm. Trust in the Holy Spirit will bring fruit, Spiritual Fruit. Trust.
In this season of Advent, let us pray, “Come Lord Jesus!”
