First Sunday of Lent
Mark 1:12-15In Mark’s presentation of the story of the 40 days Jesus spent in the desert being tempted and defeating the devil, we have few details. Mark is simplistic in his account of the story. He says Jesus was tempted and the angels ministered to Him. Then he furthers the story to say Jesus called all to a life of faith and repentance. This account is important because it promotes the importance of “repent and believe.” We must give our attention to this in our own lives and those close to us. This uncomplicated phrase of “repent and believe” has an abundance of meaning, action, and direction. The message of God is simple. It is not easy, but it is simple. This should bring us great comfort. And the fact that Jesus does not abandon us, gives us courage to live out this message.
