Monday of Holy Week
John 12:1-11Today’s gospel story is dinner at the home of Lazarus. There is an interplay of personalities that show the humanity present in and around Jesus as His life is plotted from Him.
We have the family of Lazarus: Martha, Mary and Lazarus. They love the Lord and hold this banquet in His honor. Mary brings out an expensive jar of ointment to show her love for him.
Judas complains about the waste of the ointment claiming his concern for the poor. Notice the kindness and gentleness of Jesus. He neither corrects nor condemns Judas. Jesus does the same for us. When we are in sin, He does not criticize us. He calmly waits for us to repent.
And the chief priests continue their plotting to kill both Lazarus and the Lord. The serene countenance of the Lord is a lesson for us on how to handle stressful situations. He wants us to be present in the moment and trust in Him.
May our daily prayer make us more like Jesus so that we may respond to all people with His calm serenity.
