Today’s Reading

Blessed Are They Who Mourn, for they will be comforted

Acts 4:23-31

In today’s reading from the Acts of the Apostles, we have a story of those who should have mourned for their persecution. Peter and John were imprisoned for speaking of Jesus. These two apostles previously mourned the death of Jesus. They mourned the loss of what they believed to be the ministry of Jesus. Little did they know, the ministry of Jesus was just beginning and they were in fact fulfilling it.
”And now, Lord, look at their threats, and grant to your servants to speak your word with all boldness, while you stretch out your hand to heal, and signs and wonders are performed through the name of your holy servant Jesus.” When they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God with boldness.” (Acts 4:29-31).
We are witnesses of the power of God to transform mourning into celebration. We are continually comforted by God in all our trials and tribulations. We must trust that the comfort will be there for us in the presence of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.

We could find no better way to describe the purpose of Daily Beatitude than the Prologue of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, Paragraph 1:

God, infinitely perfect and blessed in himself, in a plan of sheer goodness freely created man to make him share in his own blessed life. For this reason, at every time and in every place, God draws close to man. He calls man to seek him, to know him, to love him with all his strength. He calls together all men, scattered and divided by sin, into the unity of his family, the Church. To accomplish this, when the fullness of time had come, God sent his Son as Redeemer and Savior. In his Son and through him, he invites men to become, in the Holy Spirit, his adopted children and thus heirs of his blessed life.

We are called to live in beatitude. This contemplation is one designed to help us incorporate the beatitudes into our day. This work is not one of absolutes. It is just one way to incorporate the countenance of Jesus into each day. It is not the only way. View our rationale.
