Blessed Are They Who Mourn, for they will be comforted
Acts 4:23-31In today’s reading from the Acts of the Apostles, we have a story of those who should have mourned for their persecution. Peter and John were imprisoned for speaking of Jesus. These two apostles previously mourned the death of Jesus. They mourned the loss of what they believed to be the ministry of Jesus. Little did they know, the ministry of Jesus was just beginning and they were in fact fulfilling it.
”And now, Lord, look at their threats, and grant to your servants to speak your word with all boldness, while you stretch out your hand to heal, and signs and wonders are performed through the name of your holy servant Jesus.” When they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God with boldness.” (Acts 4:29-31).
We are witnesses of the power of God to transform mourning into celebration. We are continually comforted by God in all our trials and tribulations. We must trust that the comfort will be there for us in the presence of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.
