Sixth Sunday of Easter
John 15:9-17Today’s gospel reading is one of great love. Jesus speaks to His disciples telling them of His love for them, a love as deep as the Father has for Jesus Himself. Can you imagine that you are loved that much? That is phenomenal: as much as the Father loves Jesus!
He wants us to abide in that love. Abide means to “act in accordance with.” So Jesus wants us to act in accordance with knowing how much He loves us. Obey His commandments. Love God and love others, just as He does.
And why? Because we ourselves are loved so intensively by Him. Do we deserve that love? No. But He loves us nonetheless. And we are called to do the same for others.
Should we do it because they deserve our love? No. We should love others because Jesus wants us to act in accordance with knowing how much he loves us.
Jesus came to show us the way. And this is the Way. Walk in it.
