Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Mark 6:30-34Two simple thoughts stand out in today’s gospel reading.
1. Jesus took the apostles apart after their work for the purpose of rest. This action shows the importance of rest. A continued flurry of activity is not good. We should perform a task, stop calmly and ask the Lord what He chooses us to do next. And after our chores are complete, we should rest.
2. Jesus has compassion on the crowd because they are like sheep without a shepherd. Many people in our world today are lost. They need Jesus. Their only encounter with Him today, may be you. Have compassion as Jesus did. Give of your time. Sometimes that is the hardest commodity to give. We find our time so precious. So does Jesus. Give.
