Monday of Holy Week

John 12:1-11

Today’s gospel reading tells of Jesus at the home of Martha and Mary and Lazarus. The reading takes place after the raising of Lazarus from the dead. Mary annoints the feet of Our Lord with genuine aromatic nard. This is a foreshadowing of His burial annointing.
In this gospel reading we hear of the plots of the chief priests to kill the Lord.
All of this begins to prepare our minds for the coming Passion.

Have mercy on us, Oh Lord.

We could find no better way to describe the purpose of Daily Beatitude than the Prologue of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, Paragraph 1:

God, infinitely perfect and blessed in himself, in a plan of sheer goodness freely created man to make him share in his own blessed life. For this reason, at every time and in every place, God draws close to man. He calls man to seek him, to know him, to love him with all his strength. He calls together all men, scattered and divided by sin, into the unity of his family, the Church. To accomplish this, when the fullness of time had come, God sent his Son as Redeemer and Savior. In his Son and through him, he invites men to become, in the Holy Spirit, his adopted children and thus heirs of his blessed life.

We are called to live in beatitude. This contemplation is one designed to help us incorporate the beatitudes into our day. This work is not one of absolutes. It is just one way to incorporate the countenance of Jesus into each day. It is not the only way. View our rationale.
