Twenty Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Luke 15:1-32Our gospel reading for today has two options, Luke 15:1-10 or Luke 15:1-32. The reading starts with the statement, “The tax collectors and sinners were all drawing near to listen to him, but the Pharisees and scribes began to complain, saying, ‘This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.’ So to them he addressed this parable.”
Both options contain this introduction. Both options go on to tell the Parable of the Lost Sheep and the Parable of the Lost Coin. But the second option goes on to include the Parable of the Lost Son (The Prodigal Son). Normally, you would hear a sermon on the Parable of the Prodigal Son.
But no matter two or three parables, the messages still addresses “The Lost.” Jesus came to save those who are lost.
Jesus came to save sinners.
Jesus, Son of the Living God, have mercy on me, a sinner.
