Thirty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time
Luke 19:1-10Today’s gospel story is the one about Zacchaeus. He was a wealthy tax collector who obviously had heard Jesus speak, or had heard about Jesus. He strains to see Jesus by climbing a tree because he is too short to see him from the ground. Jesus loves this act of love so much that he goes to dine at Zacchaeus’ home. Many people grumbled about this.
”But Zacchaeus stood there and said to the Lord, ‘Behold, half of my possessions, Lord, I shall give to the poor, and if I have extorted anything from anyone I shall repay it four times over.’ And Jesus said to him, ‘Today salvation has come to this house because this man too is a descendant of Abraham. For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save what was lost.’“
Zaccheus, pray for us to respond in fervor to the Lord.
