First Sunday of Advent

Matthew 24:37-44

Advent begins with readings that urge us to get ready. It is a reflection on the days of Noah and the lack of attention of the people. A quote from the gospel is, “Therefore, stay awake! For you do not know on which day your Lord will come.”
And so we begin Advent, preparing for the birth of Jesus and taking his advice, “…you also must be prepared, for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come.”
Jesus, Son of the Living God, have mercy on me, a sinner.

We could find no better way to describe the purpose of Daily Beatitude than the Prologue of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, Paragraph 1:

God, infinitely perfect and blessed in himself, in a plan of sheer goodness freely created man to make him share in his own blessed life. For this reason, at every time and in every place, God draws close to man. He calls man to seek him, to know him, to love him with all his strength. He calls together all men, scattered and divided by sin, into the unity of his family, the Church. To accomplish this, when the fullness of time had come, God sent his Son as Redeemer and Savior. In his Son and through him, he invites men to become, in the Holy Spirit, his adopted children and thus heirs of his blessed life.

We are called to live in beatitude. This contemplation is one designed to help us incorporate the beatitudes into our day. This work is not one of absolutes. It is just one way to incorporate the countenance of Jesus into each day. It is not the only way. View our rationale.
