Third Sunday in Ordinary Time
Luke 1:1-4; 4:14-21On this Third Sunday, we continue our entrance into Ordinary Time. Jesus also begins his public ministry. One of his first places he visits is Nazareth, his hometown. He reveals, through the scripture from Isaiah, that he is the chosen one of God. Although today's gospel reading stops prior to his rejection, we know Jesus is not accepted in his native town. Because they have known him since his early childhood, they cannot accept him as one 'anointed' by God.
Think about that scenario in your own life. Would you be able to accept a neighbor as one 'anointed' by God? Would you try to hurl him from a hill, as Jesus' neighbors did? Are the people in the Bible much different than you and I?
