Today’s Reading

Third Sunday in Ordinary Time

Luke 1:1-4; 4:14-21

On this Third Sunday, we continue our entrance into Ordinary Time. Jesus also begins his public ministry. One of his first places he visits is Nazareth, his hometown. He reveals, through the scripture from Isaiah, that he is the chosen one of God. Although today's gospel reading stops prior to his rejection, we know Jesus is not accepted in his native town. Because they have known him since his early childhood, they cannot accept him as one 'anointed' by God.
Think about that scenario in your own life. Would you be able to accept a neighbor as one 'anointed' by God? Would you try to hurl him from a hill, as Jesus' neighbors did? Are the people in the Bible much different than you and I?

We could find no better way to describe the purpose of Daily Beatitude than the Prologue of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, Paragraph 1:

God, infinitely perfect and blessed in himself, in a plan of sheer goodness freely created man to make him share in his own blessed life. For this reason, at every time and in every place, God draws close to man. He calls man to seek him, to know him, to love him with all his strength. He calls together all men, scattered and divided by sin, into the unity of his family, the Church. To accomplish this, when the fullness of time had come, God sent his Son as Redeemer and Savior. In his Son and through him, he invites men to become, in the Holy Spirit, his adopted children and thus heirs of his blessed life.

We are called to live in beatitude. This contemplation is one designed to help us incorporate the beatitudes into our day. This work is not one of absolutes. It is just one way to incorporate the countenance of Jesus into each day. It is not the only way. View our rationale.
