The Blessed Virgin Mary
Today’s gospel reading is Luke 11:27-28.
”While he was speaking, a woman from the crowd called out and said to him, ‘Blessed is the womb that carried you and the breasts at which you nursed.’ He replied, ‘Rather, blessed are those who hear the word of God and observe it.’”
Though few people realize it, this is an extreme compliment to Our Lady, mother of Jesus. Yes, she was the one to carry Him in her womb and nurse Him. But more importantly, she heard the word of God and kept it. No human had more faith than the pure Virgin who bore Our Lord Jesus. No one was more observant of the word of God, than she.
On this Saturday devoted to Our Blessed Mother, let us turn to her and ask for graces to hear God’s word and observe it better than we have in the past.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now, and at the hour of our death. Amen.
